The first ever Saskatchewan Brass Band Retreat took place at the University of Saskatchewan from August 6-9th 2013 with great success. The course consisted of four days of intensive rehearsals, lectures and masterclasses conducted by the composer Dr. Peter Meechan and guest Trombone soloist Peter Moore from Manchester England, culminating in a concert as part of the Third Avenue Centre Summer Proms in Saskatoon.
The band was made up of 25 brass and percussion players aged 16-74, coming from around Saskatchewan and beyond. The course was set up to help further enrich the longstanding Saskatchewan and British tradition of brass banding in North America, while offering players a chance to work with first class experienced brass band musicians and improve in a more intimate and inclusive environment.
